Astigmatism

Astigmatism is a condition in which rays of light are not refracted equally in all directions, so that a point of focus on the retina is not attained. The diagram below shows how the light rays focus in front of and behind the retina simultaneously, depicting one example of an astigmatism.
Astigmatism manifests as an image blurred in all directions (as pictured).
